Mountain View

Weekly rentals only, Saturday noon to Saturday noon. |
Mountain View stands sheltered in a grove of trees upon a hill, a short distance from the main lodge and screened by forest. Inside, a massive stonework fireplace provides a center of interest in the large, open to the rafters living room. This cottage does not have a direct view of the lake because of intervening trees, but has a great view of Arab mountain, plus a large lawn. Mountain View is a brief, 2 minute walk or drive from our lake front area, providing a measure of security for families with small children.
There are two bedrooms, each of which contains a built-in, double bunk bed. You have probably never seen one of these before, but this arrangement consists of a double bed above, and a double bed below in each bedroom. Effectively, you have two double beds in each bedroom, for a total of four, and it takes up very little space. There is also a baby's crib, plus a built-in day bed in the living room, so there is plenty of sleeping space. Just inside the back door, you will find a compact kitchen with double compartment sink, refrigerator, gas stove with oven, shelves with silver, eating utensils, and cooking pots and pans. The dining area is off to one side. Kitchen and bath are provided with automatic hot water. There are electric lights and outlets, but no phone service or TV - the way most people like it. You may bring your own TV if you wish to watch DVDs, but there is no cable hookup. Like all of our cottages, Mountain View is a rustic Adirondack cabin over 50 years of age. It is open to the studs in many places, has a few leaks through the stone of the fireplace, and may have a few watermarks on woodwork and wall board. If you are expecting the Hilton, then please go to the Hilton. But, if you are looking for a clean, pleasant cottage with authentic Adirondack charm, privacy, and isolation, in a forest setting, you should be very pleased. We rent this cottage as a housekeeping unit. You must thoroughly clean the cottage just prior to your departure. Pillows and blankets are provided for your use, but you need to bring your own linens: towels, sheets, pillow cases, and all expendables such as soaps and toilet paper. You must supply your own firewood from the wood racks to be found in Tupper Lake, where you will also find an assortment of grocery stores and other amenities. You may use any firewood you find behind the cottage that has been left over from spring clean-up or previous tenants.
Pets are not allowed.
You are responsible for cottage cleanup. Prices charged, including the balance of your cottage rental, are those currently in effect at the time of your arrival regardless of when you made your reservation. We shall notify those making reservations prior to the new year if there is any change in the rate. If you are dissatisfied with the new rate, you may cancel your reservation by the end of February and I shall return your deposit. If you are concerned about the possibility of a rate change and have not heard from me, contact me (518-359-9300) prior to the end of February. Our rental week runs from Saturday noon to Saturday noon. We rent for whole week periods only during the spring, summer, and fall - our cottages are not winterized. The rate for Mountain View is $700 per week plus tax for up to 4 people, children included. Beyond 4 people, we add $100 per week per person plus tax in excess of 4. (5 people would be $800, 6 people would be $900, and so on.) To make a reservation, we require that you send a deposit of one-half the total amount, and pay the balance upon arrival. The additional 'tax' mentioned is a 3 percent County 'bed tax' that amounts to $21 on the base rate of $700 (plus $3 additional for each additional $100 on the rate. The tax is due when paying the balance. All payments, both deposit and balance, are final and will not be refunded.
Each of our cottages has free access to one aluminum rowboat or aluminum canoe. Whether or not the available craft is a boat or canoe depends on whatever is available at the moment of use. Anyone wishing to use an additional boat or canoe must work out an arrangement on their own with the guests of another cottage. I expect this will not be difficult as all of our guests are always very friendly people. Our boats are for use ONLY on Eagle Crag Lake. Our canoes may be used ONLY on Eagle Crag, in the outlet of Eagle Crag below the dam, and on Mount Arab Lake. (There is a short carry to Mount Arab Lake.) Thank you for your interest - you will not be disappointed. |
